At Kaleasco Border Collies, we believe that every dog deserves to have a loving, forever home. For us, our dogs are not just part of our breeding program, but they are our family. They live in our home, not in kennels (though they are all crate trained), and they are all spoilt rotten with love and attention, living life to the fullest. With each litter born, there is quite often at least one or two stand out pups and over the years we have produced several pups that we wish had kept. But we haven't because as much as we’d love to be able to keep each of these pups, for the future improvement of the breed, it’s just not realistic or fair on the pup or our current dogs. Placing pups in guardian homes allows us the opportunity to be able to breed with that pup in the future, as long as once it has matured, it passes all it's health testing and has the comformation and temperament we are looking for.

So what does it mean to be a Guardian Owner? To put it simply, the boys are kept entire to be used for natural matings (for a limited time period) or to be collected for use in the future. The girls come back to us for mating and then when ready, we whelp and raise their litter. Potentially, we may do a second litter, but that would be all. Essentially though, the dog is yours forever and they are only a part of our breeding program for a short time.
